Each car got its car number on the spot, printed on a windshield card with a QR code. That number is the whole system in one glance: it is what spectators enter to vote, what staff use at check-in, and what the announcer reads at the trophy table.
Voting from the crowd’s own phones
There were no paper ballots and no ballot box. Spectators scanned the QR code on any windshield card, landed on the show’s ballot, and voted for their favorites in each category by picking the car or typing its number, right there on the field.
The first vote landed at 8:19 AM, before some entrants had parked. The busiest hour, 11 AM, took in more than 1,100 votes on its own. Fifteen categories were on the ballot, from Best Classic and Best Muscle to Best Bike and Best Custom, including three crowd favorites: People’s Choice, Ladies’ Choice, and Kid’s Choice. People’s Choice drew the most votes of any category, 375.
Trophies with the sponsors’ names on them
Alongside the voted categories, the show presented a Mayor’s Choice award, seven sponsor awards carrying the names of the local businesses behind them, and a Best of Show finale to close the ceremony. Every award was decided from the live tally.
Those four minutes between the voting cutoff and final results deserve a sentence of their own. At a 400-car show run on paper, that gap is an hour or more of volunteers sorting slips at a folding table while the crowd thins out. Here, the tally had been running all day, so closing the ballot ended the count instead of starting one, and the ceremony began while the field was still full.
