Results and awards: from the last vote to the trophy table

How winners are decided when voting closes, what you can override and what gets logged, the ceremony script the MC reads from a phone, and the trophy table that keeps track of who has collected.

The Results page while voting runs

Results, in the manage menu, is the private tally. Anyone on your staff can open it, and it reads the same numbers the public leaderboard reads, so the two never disagree. The header counts the active votes. Below it is one card per category, then Best of Show, then People’s Choice: the leading car by number, its owner, and the vote count, with the runners-up under it. Judged classes show points and how many judges scored instead of votes.

Two badges matter before the ceremony. A yellow border with TIE means the top two are level, so look at that class before you announce it. OVERRIDE means someone on staff changed the voted winner by hand, and the reason they gave is in the change log.

How the tally ranks cars

Within a voted category the order is: most votes, then most Best of Show votes, then whoever registered first, then the lower Car Number. It is deterministic, so two people looking at the tally at the same second see the same order, and a tie on votes still produces a first place rather than a shrug. Judged classes rank by their aggregate score (mean or sum, your choice on the Awards and tally settings), then by how many judges scored the car, then the same registration and number tiebreaks.

Votes are never edited or deleted. If a show allows voters to change their mind, the new vote supersedes the old one and both rows stay; the tally only counts the live one. Cancelled entries keep their Car Number and drop out of the tally entirely.

The Top list

Beyond the category trophies, the tally ranks every car in the show into one overall list, the Top 20 board clubs post at the awards tent. Three settings on the Awards and tally page shape it. Size of the Top list is how many cars it holds. Top list ranks by picks between the two traditions: most votes overall, counting every category, or Best of Show votes only, which makes it the runners-up list. The heading on the Results page and in the ceremony script names your choice so nobody has to guess. Spread the trophies around takes a car that already won its category out of the Top list so the next car in line moves up.

One trophy per car

Two more switches on that page decide whether a car can go home with several awards. Best of Show wins only that award takes the Best of Show winner out of the running for their category. Hand-picked trophies count too, which only applies while the first switch is on, takes a car holding a hand-picked award out of the running for Best of Show and blocks a second hand-picked award for it. When the tally drops a car for one of these reasons, the Results card says so under the standings: “Not in the running - one trophy per car”, with the award the car already holds. Trying to hand-pick a car that already holds an award on a one-trophy show is refused with the same explanation.

Hand-picked awards

Best Paint, Sponsor’s Pick, Longest Distance: awards you choose yourself. Add them on the Categories and awards page under Hand-picked awards, and tick Announce after Best of Show on any that should close the ceremony. On the Results page each one has a Car Number field and a Set button. Until every hand-picked award has a winner, results cannot be finalized, and the page marks the ones still waiting with Needs a pick. Voters can nominate cars for these awards during voting; nominations are shown as a signal for you, never counted as a result.

Category winners can be overridden too, from the disclosure labelled “Override a voted winner (requires a reason - it’s logged)”. The reason is required, it lands in the change log with who did it, and the card wears the OVERRIDE badge from then on. Some shows keep the public leaderboard off for exactly this case, so a board that showed one leader all afternoon never has to be explained; that is the Live results switch on the same settings page.

Finalizing

Finalize results, at the top of the Results page, does four things in order. It refuses if any hand-picked award has no winner, naming them. It creates the category winners from the tally, skipping any category with no votes at all. It writes a final snapshot of the tally. Then it stamps the show as finalized and the button is replaced by the date.

There is no undo. After finalizing, awards cannot be added, renamed, or removed, and winners cannot be changed. Two things change on the public side: the show page gains a Winners section that stays as the permanent record, and judged classes, which stay hidden from the live boards until this moment, appear on them.

The ceremony script

Awards script, also at the top of the Results page, is what the MC reads. It lists every decided winner in ceremony order: category awards, then hand-picked awards, then People’s Choice, then Best of Show, then anything you flagged to announce after Best of Show. Each line has the award, the Car Number, the car, and the owner’s name, and the Top list follows with its basis named. It prints cleanly.

Most MCs are not staff, so the page has a private link: an unguessable address with no sign-in, which you can copy or email to a phone straight from the page. Anyone holding it can read the winners, so hand it to ceremony people only. The link does not expire.

The trophy table

Once results are finalized, the Results page grows a Trophy table with a count of how many have been collected. Each winner has a Trophy picked up button; once ticked it shows the time, with Undo beside it. It exists for the winner who left early and comes back for theirs on Monday, and for the double handout that never happens because the table said so. Any staff role can work it, and it works without JavaScript.

Live standings during voting

The public leaderboard is a separate thing from results. Live results, on the Awards and tally page, turns the phone leaderboard, the TV boards, and the Live results tab on and off together. What the leaderboard shows picks between rankings with vote counts, rankings only, and hidden, which keeps the leaders under wraps while still counting votes out loud. Cars shown per category sets the podium depth. The TV board at /results/tv/ is dark and chrome-free for a screen at the show, with a light version at /results/tv/light/ for daylight, and a big-screen banner you can change from the settings page while the board is running. The code in the board’s corner is a setting too: scan to vote, scan to donate, both taking turns every fifteen seconds, or none. The donate code needs the public donate page on. Along the bottom, the board thanks your sponsors: every sponsor shown on your public page, as a chip with the logo or the name, six at a time, the rest taking turns. Sponsors on the big screen, on the same settings tab, turns the strip off.

What results do not do

Finalizing cannot be undone.
Ties are flagged, not decided for you. The order shown is the deterministic one; overriding is your call.
Nominations for hand-picked awards never pick a winner on their own.
Judged classes cannot be shown on the live boards before finalizing.
Gaps in judging coverage are shown on the Results page but do not block finalizing, and a judged class whose cars were scored by different numbers of judges carries a notice above its standings.
Cars getting votes that were never checked in are listed above the tally before you finalize, so a forgotten click at the table gets settled on Registrants first.
A category with no votes gets no award.
The Top list is not exported and is not on the public leaderboard; it lives on the Results page and in the ceremony script.

Results, answered

Can I undo finalizing?

No. Finalizing writes the winners and locks the awards, and there is no un-finalize. Pick every hand-picked winner first, look the Results page over, and press it once you are happy. Trophies can still be ticked off afterwards; that is not locked.

What happens on a tie?

The card gets a yellow border and a TIE badge so you see it before the ceremony. The order shown is deterministic (votes, then Best of Show votes, then who registered first, then the lower Car Number), and if you want a different call you override the winner with a reason, which is logged.

Can the MC see the script without a staff account?

Yes. The Awards script page has a private link with an unguessable address. Copy it, text it, or email it from the page. Anyone holding the link can read the winners, so only send it to ceremony people.

Where do the winners appear publicly?

Once results are finalized, the show page gets a Winners section with each award and car, and it stays there as the permanent record of the show. The live leaderboards show standings while voting runs; they are not the official results.
